Job Description

KAPSARC seeks a macroeconomist to contribute to its applied research and advisory projects on energy-related economic issues. The applicant should have solid modeling skills, for instance in DSGE or CGE modeling, and have a strong interest in the evaluation of policies, such as local content regulations.

Required qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in the field of macroeconomics or energy economics
  • Solid quantitative skills and analytical capability to understand and develop economic models to be used for policymaking. Technical skills in DSGE modeling would be highly appreciated
  • Minimum 8 years experience in oil and gas markets with a strong background in advisory, consulting, and research.
  • Experience in some of the following academic and/or policy fields: oil and gas markets, energy economics, demand and supply outlooks, and geopolitics of energy.

Experience

  • Proven ability to draft analytical and evidence-based policy-relevant papers that are clear, concise, and reader-friendly; successful peer-reviewed publication is an advantage.
  • A proven track record of publications in journals in economics
  • Consulting experience in the field of macro or energy economics would be a plus
  • Experience in the evaluation of local-content policies would be a plus
  • Ability to work both as a part of a team and independently
  • Ability to communicate research insights to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Good communication skills and an enthusiastic team player.
  • Additional languages to English are a plus, especially Arabic.
  • The successful candidate is expected to:
  • Develop research projects and proposals
  • Improve, update and develop models
  • Draft research papers and timely briefs on relevant topics
  • Contribute to KAPSARC consulting activities
  • Respond in a timely matter to ad hoc requests
  • Deliver effective presentations at conferences and workshops
  • Mentor junior researchers
  • The candidate will also be encouraged to publish the outcomes of the research projects in peer-reviewed journals.
