This a senior position that will play the lead role in the development and extension of computational social science models in the Policy and Decision Science Program. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in blending mathematics, computer science, and model building to address practical questions. A background in computational social science is essential,and the successful candidate should demonstrate willingness and experience to apply their research skills in this fast-growing field, particularly in the development of tools like the KAPSARCToolkit for Behavioral Analysis (KTAB) , and the integration of economic and political models. The candidate should have strong methodological experience and an impressive skill set that could be applied to a range of potential research questions , to be shaped jointly with the program leadership.
- Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g. political science, mathematics, computer science, operations research) and expensive job experience that would clearly demonstrate competency in writing, programming, and model development.
- At least 10 years of experience developing computational models, working with and managing multidisciplinary teams of developers and modelers, and a research background that clearly demonstrates experience in models of human behavior and group decision-making.
- Excellent command of the English language (spoken/written)
- Demonstrable experience in developing and applying practical computational or quantitative models to real-world problems. Experience in developing the KTAB codebase and innovating models using the KTAB libraries is essential.
- Experience in social science-related research desired.
- Proficiency and experience working with C++ and other languages useful for the development of computational models.
- Experience or ability to quickly learn to utilize d3.js for complex visualization.
- Excellent problem-solving skills. Willingness to creatively apply a knowledge of non-economic literatures to the energy economics and energy policy domains.
- Must be willing and excited to work with economists, social scientists, mathematicians, and other researchers to produce the foundations for policy relevant research.
- Fellow role in managing and developing KAPSARC’s suite of computational social science models – in particular the KAPSARC Toolkit for Behavioral Analysis (KTAB).
- Thought leadership and practical contributions to the team’s computational and quantitative research on the relationship between political, social, and other non-economic phenomena and energy issues.
- Mentoring a team of promising younger researchers.
- Collaboration with the research team to produce peer-review journal articles.
- Furthering the theoretical foundations of, and identifying the explanations for, the impact of non-economic factors on global energy markets.
