Job Description

The Vice President of Finance and Operations is responsible for overall leadership of the financial and operational affairs of the Center. Ensures the organization engages in rigorous financial planning, modeling, and fundraising, especially as KAPSARC plans for continued growth in the coming years. Also oversees the daily operations in non-research areas, including human resources, information technology and the Center’s facilities.

Required qualifications

  • EDUCATION: Graduate degree including Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, or other suitable degree. Master of Business Administration is preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE: 15 years of experience in a wide-ranging operations role at an organization (nonprofit, for-profit or public sector) with an annual budget of at least $30 million. At least three years of experience in a similar position with this broad range of responsibilities.
  • A track record of success in human resources, information technology and office management. Experience in introducing change, especially process improvement, in a growing organization.

  • 1. Responsible for all financial and administrative activities of KAPSARC and all facilities, including, but not limited to:
    - All operational financial activities, including annual reports as required by the articles of incorporation.
    - Facility operations, maintenance, security.
    - All procurement activities, including purchases and contracts.
    - Human Resources activities, including all permanent and transient personnel and dependents.
    - All Information Technology activities.
    - All Public Relations and Communications activities, including workshop, seminar, events, and external visits.
    - Any other activities supporting advisory, research and external affairs, or as required by the President.
    2. Leads in the development of an annual operating plan that is consistent with the Center’s strategic plan and ensures resources are used effectively and efficiently.
    3. Provides vision and oversight of a diverse service organization that supports the research mission of the Center:
    - In conjunction with the Controller, provides ongoing strategic direction to the Center’s budgeting, fiscal management and controls, auditing, and long-term financial planning.
    - In conjunction with the Director of Procurement, has oversight of contract and purchasing activities and policies that assure effective, efficient, and secure procurement practices for the center.
    - In conjunction with the Director of Human Resources, institutes recruitment and talent management processes, as well as employment policies and practices that ensure the attraction and retention of the highest quality scholars and administrative personnel.
    - In conjunction with the Director of Information Technology, promotes the use of cutting-edge and emerging technologies to improve internal operations and strengthen communication with the various external audiences the Center is seeking to inform and influence.
    - In conjunction with the Director of Facilities, provides for the general management of the physical plant, including safety, security, maintenance, mail, and community services. Provides effective leadership of capital projects for improvement of Center facilities.
    - In conjunction with the Director of Public Relations, effectively communicate the Center’s strategic priorities, ongoing activities and other support requirements including visits from external visitor and organization of external activities such as workshops, seminars, and other events.
    4. Investigates outsourcing opportunities for all finance and administrative activities which will significantly reduce operational costs and overhead while maintaining high levels of service.
    5. Financial and other approval authorities as delegated by the Board of Trustees or the President.
