Dr. Brian Efird, social science modeling and simulation expert, joins KAPSARC

Dr. Brian Efird, formerly a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Technology and National Security Policy, National Defense University (NDU), Washington D.C., has joined the KAPSARC Research Department. Brian has sixteen years’ experience in applied social science modeling and simulation, and will work on global energy issues that contribute to societal interests by applying quantitative political science and integrating political and economic considerations into energy projects. He will initially study the relationship between Chinese politics and energy issues in China.

Prior to NDU, Brian was Executive Vice President at Sentia Group, responsible for team management on over 375 projects and for leading the research and development to develop human social cultural behavioral models for corporate and government organizations. Previous to Sentia, he was Vice President at Decision Insights Inc., New York City, applying modeling and simulation to mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations, litigation, crisis management, risk analysis, and futures price forecasting.

Brian has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals and is a co-author of the book Power Transitions. He has a BA in Philosophy from Emporia State University, and an MA in International Studies and a PhD in Political Science both from Claremont Graduate University​​
