Project Aim

The KAPSARC Energy Model (KEM) is an advanced energy-modeling platform that can handle the pricing rules, subsidies and other government interventions specific to Saudi Arabia. KEM has been developed by KAPSARC to assess the effects of alternative policies or technologies. Our development strategy has been driven by stakeholders’ policy questions, existing modeling gaps and innovative methodologies as necessary. KEM has been extensively used for research projects, collaboration with stakeholders and for KAPSARC advisory activities. This project continues development of the platform to facilitate model management and flexibility to address stakeholders’ policy questions. Its objective is to streamline the KEM family of models to facilitate use by external stakeholders. It leverages the Extended Mathematical Programming (EMP) framework to simplify KEM structure and policy analysis. It also includes the upgrading of the User Interface.
