Remote Sensing and Social Science

This research program seeks to combine remote sensing and social science methods to study energy development, energy use and to inform energy policy.

Remote sensing provides a capability that generates more detailed, geo-located data in areas of the world where data are often difficult to obtain. Moreover, this data platform can also facilitate the disaggregation of country-level data where data are well-known and well measured, in order to support research that provides a more nuanced view of phenomena at a local level. Social science methods and techniques, combined with remote sensing data, will be used to address questions about how energy use and energy development impact society and communities at a local level.
