In May 2023, the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) organized a workshop titled “The race to decarbonize long-haul transport and the lessons learned for KSA” with the support of the University of Antwerp. The workshop aimed to discuss current developments in KSA’s transport, infrastructure, and logistics sector in the context of achieving targets of decarbonization, improvement in efficiency, and reaching sustainability. The transportation sector is one of the key contributors to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) estimating a 25% contribution of the sector to global emissions (UNEP, 2024).
