KAPSARC held a seminar in Riyadh on June 10, 2014 entitled Insights into the Kingdom’s Energy Economy. John Sfakianakis, Chief Investment Strategist at MASIC, analyzed the economic growth of Saudi Arabia over the last decade. He emphasized diversification, labor, and energy as key economic issues for the future. Axel Pierru, Senior Research Fellow at KAPSARC, presented modeling results on ways to reduce current fuel consumption without changing consumer prices. He stressed the substantial economic gain that could be achieved by a modest increase in inter-sector transfer prices of fuels and credits for investment in solar and nuclear. Both speakers also answered various questions on the Kingdom’s energy economy.
