The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) held a webinar on Tuesday, July 14
th, entitled “Managing Energy Transitions in Developing Countries,” and in partnership with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations and the Think 20 (T20).The workshop included a review of the best solutions and policies in energy security and the sustainability of natural resources, which participants aim to present to the G20. Six experts and researchers from Saudi Arabia and India participated in the workshop, in addition to a number of specialists and those interested in energy and environmental affairs in order to help developing countries get access to sustainable energy.From his side, Dr. Fahad Alturki, the KAPSARC Vice President of Research, welcomed the speakers and participants during his opening speech. He stated that the center looks forward to cooperating with the think tanks in India to examine the best ways to enhance access to energy transitions and a net-zero carbon future, in addition to mechanisms for access to affordable, clean and efficient energy.Alturki expressed the happiness of the T20 Saudi Arabia that two KAPSARC researchers co-lead the second and tenth task forces in the T20: Sustainable Energy, Water, and Food Systems chaired by Dr. Hossa Almutairi, and Climate Change and Environment chaired by Dr. Noura Mansouri.The workshop seeks to find possible solutions to ensure energy and electricity access for everyone in developing countries, to identify the common elements that help achieve full access to clean energy, to define the role of hydrocarbons in a net-zero carbon future, and to take aggressive actions to mitigate emissions from energy use.Holding this webinar comes in the context of KAPSARC’s energy webinar series. The center focuses through its research programs on Energy and Macroeconomics, Transport and Urban Infrastructure, Energy Markets and Industrial Development, Energy Transitions and Electric Power, Policy and Decision Science, and Climate and Environment. According to these programs and workshops, the center also seeks to publish the summary and recommendations of these workshops on KAPSARC’s website.It is noted that KAPSARC announced last February its progress in the list of the best research centers regionally and globally. KAPSARC jumped 14 ranks in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) research centers to rank 15th among 103 research centers in the region, and ranked 13th out of 60 research centers globally specializing in energy policies and resources.
أقام مركز الملك عبد الله للدراسات والبحوث البترولية كابسارك يوم الثلاثاء الموافق 14 يوليو، حلقة عمل افتراضية بعنوان إدارة تحولات الطاقة في الدول النامية.وذلك بالشراكة مع المجلس الهندي لبحوث العلاقات الاقتصادية الدولية ومجموعة الفكر العشرين (T20).
اشتملت الورشة على استعراض لأفضل الحلول والسياسات في أمن الطاقة واستدامة المصادر الطبيعية، التي يهدف المشاركون إلى رفعها لمجموعة العشرين. كما شارك في الورشة ستة خبراء وباحثين من المملكة والهند، إضافة إلى عدد من المتخصصين والمهتمين في شؤون الطاقة والبيئة، بهدف مساعدة الدول النامية على الوصول لطاقة مستدامة.
وقد رحب الدكتور فهد التركي -نائب الرئيس للأبحاث في كابسارك- بالمتحدثين والمشاركين خلال إلقاءه للكلمة الافتتاحية، منوهًا بتطلع المركز إلى التعاون مع مراكز الأبحاث في الهند لبحث أفضل الطرق في تعزيز الوصول لتحولات الطاقة ومستقبل بلا كربون، بالإضافة إلى آليات الحصول على طاقة فعالة نظيفة وميسورة التكلفة.
وعبر التركي عن سعادة مجموعة الفكر العشرين السعودية بأن باحثتان من كابسارك تتوليان رئاسة فريقا العمل الثاني والعاشر في المجموعة، وهما: (أنظمة الطاقة والمياه والغذاء المستدامة) برئاسة الدكتورة حصة المطيري، و(تغير المناخ والبيئة) برئاسة الدكتورة نورة المنصوري.
وتسعى ورشة العمل إلى إيجاد الحلول الممكنة من تأمين وصول الطاقة والكهرباء إلى كافة سكان الدول النامية، وتحديد العناصر المشتركة التي تساعد على تحقيق الوصول الشامل إلى الطاقة النظيفة، والتعريف بدور الهيدروكربونات في مستقبل بلا كربون، إلى جانب اتخاذ الإجراءات الحازمة للتخفيف من الانبعاثات الناتجة عن استخدام الطاقة.
تأتي حلقة العمل الافتراضية في سياق سلسلة لقاءات كابسارك الافتراضية المتخصصة في قضايا الطاقة، إذ يركز المركز من خلال برامجه البحثية على الطاقة، والاقتصاد الكلي، والنقل، والبنية التحتية للمدن، والتنمية الصناعية، والأسواق، وتحولات الطاقة والكهرباء، إضافة إلى علوم السياسة واتخاذ القرار، والبيئة، وتغير المناخ. كما يسعى المركز وفقًا لهذه البرامج وحلقات العمل التي يقيمها إلى نشر خلاصة هذه الورش وتوصياتها على موقع كابسارك الإلكتروني.
يُذكر أن مركز الملك عبد الله للدراسات والبحوث البترولية «كابسارك» قد أعلن في فبراير الماضي عن تقدمه في قائمة أفضل مراكز الأبحاث إقليميًّا وعالميًّا؛ إذ فقز 14 مرتبة في تصنيف مراكز أبحاث الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا ليحتل المرتبة 15 من بين 103 مراكز أبحاث في المنطقة. وعلى المستوى العالمي احتل المرتبة 13 من بين 60 مركز أبحاث متخصص في سياسات الطاقة ومواردها.
