Job Description

The senior content specialist role at KAPSARC sits within the Media & Communications team and is responsible for developing technical content for public dissemination. The core function is to lead efforts to improve the accessibility and reach of KAPSARC’s research content. The position requires broad subject matter expertise of energy and in-depth knowledge of one specific area within the energy field (oil and gas, renewables, climate change, power generation, electricity, etc.). Outstanding writing skills are required.Knowledge and experience of working with various digital platforms and tools is also required. The individual needs to be already established in the media so that key findings and messages can be disseminated.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, economics or related fields.
  • Familiarity with keyword placement and SEO.
  • 5+ years’ experience working as a content specialist, copywriter or journalist would be an advantage.
  • Experience with digital media management.
  • Fluency in English (Arabic is a plus), including advanced command of writing, and verbal communication
  • Deep understanding of any of the following: energy, energy economics, climate change, renewables, and other related topics in the industry.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Social Media analytics.

  • Manage online and print content materials and campaigns.
  • Brainstorm and collaborate with the Communications team for new ideas and content strategies.
  • Track web analytics to ascertain content engagement levels.
  • Quick learner and adaptable to learning new processes, concepts, and skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, results-oriented, self-directed, and inquisitive.
  • Ability to work collaboratively or independently while managing multiple assignments and/or responsibilities.
  • Proven work experience.
  • Proven English language competency.
  • Data visualization experience is a plus.
  • Write op-eds and commentaries, attributed to the leadership and the center, that build on a piece of KAPSARC research and make it timely and relevant to the current news cycle.
  • Develop content across mailing list, podcast, and website.
  • Own mailing list, podcast, and website content and ensure platforms are being used to their fullest potential.
  • Develop English press releases and media talking points.
  • Manage international media relations.
  • Suggest and implement new content ideas, in coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Create content to be used on all communication platforms (website, podcast platforms, email campaigns).
  • Monitor, track, and document content results. Analyze data/returns/customer response and traffic analysis of named platforms.
  • Liaise with digital content writers to ensure brand consistency and editorial calendars.
  • Constantly monitor audience reaction/needs/appetite to content, and develop content based on this, together with website, podcast platforms and mail campaigns traffic and users’ engagement metrics.
  • Stay up to date with trends and developments. Generate new ideas to draw audience attention.
