We're happy to have concluded an insightful panel discussion on Saudi Arabia's journey to becoming a global– but also sustainable– transport and logistics hub. In his opening remarks, President Fahad Alajlan emphasized the need for a sustainable network to support the economic objectives and climate targets set forth by #vision2030. Suliman Almazroua, CEO of the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP), shed light on the far-reaching impacts of the Vision, emphasizing that they will unlock new opportunities for products and markets, fostering improved connectivity between continents and enhancing international trade. Moderated by Anvita Arora, Director of Transport & Infrastructure at #KAPSARC the panel explored essential elements for optimizing logistics performance, addressing rail, port targets, air transport, connectivity policies, sustainable infrastructure, decarbonization efforts, and a sustainable energy transition. Industry leaders including Jason French, CEO of King Salman Energy Park (SPARK), and Christa Sys, BNP Paribas Fortis Chair on transport, logistics, and ports at the University of Antwerp, shared insights on optimizing supply chain operations and embracing innovative technologies. Mohammad Al Tayyar, Program Director of the Oil Sustainability Program highlighted that hydrocarbons will remain a key part of the transportation sector in the coming decades. A balanced and inclusive approach is needed to address emissions reduction from the transportation sector whether it’s road, aviation or maritime. Al Tayyar emphasized the significant role technology plays in helping to meet the challenges facing the sector. Teddy Z., CEO of Saudia Cargo, underscored leveraging new technologies, including alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, nuclear, biodiesel, and more, as viable fuel options for different transportation modes. However, he also highlighted the importance of ship owners and operators accepting and adopting these new fuels as a crucial step in transitioning to a more sustainable future. Bader Al Atni, Senior VP – Freight, Saudi Railway Company, highlighted the progress made in the local rail sector, emphasizing the necessity of continued investment, harmonization, and collaboration to establish a seamless multimodal network. Essam Al Ammari, from the Transport General Authority, provided insights on the commitment to establishing sustainable and more efficient port infrastructure, which aligns with the broader energy transition goals of Saudi Arabia. #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #TransportAndLogistics #SaudiArabia
