KAPSARC’s research paper, Debating the Trade-offs in China’s Oil Import Security, has been published in the International Journal of Energy Security and Environmental Research. The paper explores China’s energy security in the context of its imports of foreign oil, and contrasts three potential policy approaches. The authors examine the consequences of a continuation of the status quo, the expansion of China’s oil exploration activities, increased reliance on coal, and improved demand-side management. It is likely that this last approach remains China’s preferred option and is consistent with similar trends worldwide.
