Future business models for power markets: what can we learn from the ‘sharing economy’? has been published in the Oxford Energy Forum journal’s special issue Transformation of the Electricity Sector. The article (on page 5) was contributed by KAPSARC research fellow Rolando Fuentes who works on Utilities of the Future.
It considers future business models in electric power markets in the case of high penetration of distributed energy resources; draws parallels from recent developments in Uber and Airbnb; and discusses the re-allocation of risk, pricing mechanisms and the interactions between regulatory and business models.
