Since its activation in December 2024, the Riyadh Metro carried over 100 million passengers in under nine months, indicating substantial uptake in a historically car-dependent city. Using high-resolution smartphone GPS data, this study provides granular, evidence-based insights into how urban mobility dynamics are evolving amid Riyadh’s rapid, large-scale urban development. The data includes over 55 million anonymized GPS origin-destination pairs coupled with floating car data (FCD) covering all roads in Riyadh City.
