Project Aim

This project focuses on the bilateral relations between energy producers in the Gulf Cooperation Council (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates) and consumers in northeast Asia (China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan).

KAPSARC has brought together 17 institutions from across both regions to compile a set of unique perspectives that will be published in an edited volume by Palgrave Macmillan in 2016. These perspectives map out the current energy relations, explore opportunities and challenges, and present policy insights to provide a framework for these relationships to move beyond their current transactional nature, complete with asymmetric fears over energy security, and reap the benefits of enhanced mutual-interdependence.
