This research program will assess how the concept of energy security and the energy security strategies of suppliers and consumers have evolved following the recent shifts in the global energy markets and balances, and the implications and potential directions of such evolution. It focuses on the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Northeast Asia and their inter-regional collaboration, with a special emphasis on Saudi Arabia and China. It will set out to identify the key drivers of the new energy security paradigm, from the perspectives of suppliers and consumers.
