Project Aim

The Indian energy economy is amidst an energy transition that has significant ramifications for fossil fuel producers seeking to expand their exports into India and consequently for global energy markets.

Key questions

  • How critical energy-intensive industries, specifically chemicals and refineries, iron & steel and aluminum, develop because of policy changes and the impact on per capita energy consumption?
  • What role will transport related policies play as a driver of petroleum demand in India and South Asia?
  • What are the policies that could be developed to attract investments from large national oil companies (NOCs) to the Indian petroleum sector –specifically the Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR) and what will be the broader ramifications in the regional crude and product markets of South Asia?
