Leading international demographist and social policy expert, Dr. Mehtab Karim, joins KAPSARC

Dr. Mehtab Karim joins the Center as a long term visitor and brings over 30 years’ experience in demography, social policy issues and program management to KAPSARC. With a rich background in academia and international agencies, teaching and conducting research, he is a welcome addition to the team as he focuses on demography and its role as a driver of energy demand.

Mehtab is currently Distinguished Senior Fellow and Affiliated Professor at George Mason University’s School of Public Policy. Previous appointments included Senior Research Fellow at Pew Research Center, Washington DC, and Professor of Demography and Head of Population and Reproductive Health Program at the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. Mehtab also served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Office of Population Research, Princeton University; Research Fellow at Asia Research Center, London School of Economics; Senior Associate at the School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University; Technical Adviser/Consultant at the World Bank, Washington DC, and Visiting Scientist, National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Karim has a PhD in Sociology/Demography from Cornell University, an MA in Social Sciences Research from the University of Chicago, and a BA (Honors) in Sociology and Economics from the University of Karachi, Pakistan.
