The global push toward lower-emission transportation coincides with rising adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), yet the discontinuance of ownership by former owners remains an important dynamic shaping market evolution. While prior evidence has largely been limited to the United States, this study provides the first empirical evidence on BEV discontinuance in China and Germany, and it situates these findings within a cross-national comparison across three major markets.
