The data used in the previous analysis has been updated by Enerdata, with material revisions to the estimates for 2018 carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Due to media interest in this topic, we have updated our analysis to reflect the most recent information (downloaded January 9, 2020).

He was leading KAPSARC… Nicholas is an applied economist specializing in economic growth, energy and natural resource and environmental economics. He was leading KAPSARC research on energy productivity and is a subject matter expert on energy efficiency, industrial strategy and energy pricing with KAPSARC Advisory. He has received several awards for his published work, including recognition for his first book on carbon markets by the American benchmarking journal Choice as a top 25 academic publication in the category of economics in 2010. Nicholas is an experienced policy advisory, thought leader and project manager with strengths in interdisciplinary issues and applied policy gained from working as a ministerial adviser in Australia and in a variety of international roles. He is also an experienced lecturer and public speaker on energy productivity, green growth and sustainable development and has presented work at a range of technical and policy fora including meetings of the International Association of Energy Economists and in support of the G20 Energy and Sustainability Working Group and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals processes.

He has held the… Alessandro is a visiting researcher and a professor of energy and environmental policy at LUISS University. He has held the positions of deputy head of the Energy and Environment Division of the IEA/OECD, Eni’s chief economist and executive director of the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei, and chief executive officer of Eni Corporate University. Alessandro's career has also included working as a researcher at the IEFE and the Joint Research Centre of the European Union at ISPRA, and as a research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. He had the distinction of being lead author for the IPCC Third Assessment Report when IPCC was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize, and for the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report. More recently Alessandro has been serving on the board of directors of ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development.

He is currently focused on creating data-driven tools to identify and evaluate different energy market scenarios and developing the KAPSARC Circular Carbon Economy Index. Thamir also acts as an advisor to the broader energy ecosystem in Saudi Arabia, particularly in the areas of clean energy transitions, sustainability, and carbon emissions management. He is also a member of the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). He previously worked as a lecturer in Australia and has entrepreneurial and industrial experience working on award-winning projects such as the Burj Khalifah Building Management System.
